Tim Wilson learned to read from his mom at home. She had a book that taught him how to read. Must be an amazing book because it actually worked. When he went to school in first grade (he didn't go to kindergarten) he realized he was actually one of the best readers there. But that was awhile ago because everyone caught up. People read simply because it is a necessity in life. Whether its reading the menu at a restaurant, a road sign, a book, a phone, or even to watch TV to read the channels menu. To be a good reader requires more then just reading a lot. People read their whole lives and aren't twice as good at reading at age 50 then they were at age 25 just because they've read twice at long. It requires actual thought on trying to get better (at least this is his brilliant theory). The part of reading that is easy for him is he is a fast reader. He's not great at deciphering hard text like old English or just if the author is trying to sound smart and is extremely wordy. But he is usually a pretty fast reader. When looking for a book, he mostly just judges it by the cover. Just kidding don't worry. Isn't the only thing he judges it by. He reads the description and decides if it sounds interesting. If he was being honest, he would also admit he judges them by the length too. If he was not being honest, he would say he judges books by how challenging and meaningful and deep they are. But yeah unless its amazing, he almost always will pick shorter ones. He doesn't often read books at home. He only read about half books Junior year simply because they where so torturous to read through. However he read almost all the books Sophomore year because he genuinely enjoyed them. He also read the three books for this summer, even though one of them was a struggle. He read How to Read Literature like a Professor, which wasn't his favorite. The other two he read were The Big Sleep, and Falling Man. He like Falling Man better. He doesn't have any favorite authors. There's probably about 75 books in there house. He is a reader or even though he doesn't read a lot of books, he reads a lot online, like random Wikipedia sites and things like that. People usually learn to write at school.
People write for many reasons. It could be they like to journal or write stories, or they have to write for school. In order to write well, you have to write a lot. Just like anything in life, you need practice to be better at. His best type of writing is informal writing. He like first person. He doesn't really like informational writing. He also isn't very good at writing fictional stories. Which stinks because between the two of those types of writing, that covers most of them types of writing. His ideas mostly just come from his head. The best things that help him as a writer is people giving him advice on how to make his papers better. He doesn't write very much at home. Basically never if it isn't homework. In general I don't feel very good about writing.
